Singular, Dual, and Plural
Otoe-Missouria not only has singular (one) and plural (more than one), it also has dual (two) in some cases. Dual occurs in the optative mood (IE “May you have a good day.” or “Let’s go.”).
There are some sources that mention the use of dual to express “they”. For example:
they (dual) are walking – manyiwi
they (3+) are walking – manyinye
However there is conflicting information as to whether the suffix -wi expresses they-dual or if that suffix is used for they-definite. See the Pronouns page for more information on this.
